Communications Executive and Content Creator (12m FTC)

United Grand Lodge of England (‘UGLE’) seeks a Communications Executive & Content Creator on a 12-month fixed term contract basis for the Membership and Communications Department. You will have a passion for all things marketing and content creation. You will be well versed in the concepts surrounding digital marketing and how the Internet can become a strong asset to promote key messages and gain new members. You will be tech-savvy and highly motivated to take on responsibility and make an impact. 

Background

Freemasons’ Hall is a unique art deco building in the heart of Covent Garden and welcomes more than 200,000 people from all over the world through its doors every year. The current building was completed in 1933 as a memorial to those who died in the Great War. It houses 22 meeting rooms including some unique spaces regularly used for major international events and as film locations. The Hall itself provides a magnificent meeting place for UK and international masonic lodges. It is open to both Freemasons and the general public who are provided with both self-guided audio tours as well as guided tours of the facilities.  Since 1775, Freemasons’ Hall has been a gathering place for Freemasons, an institution built on knowledge, tradition and philanthropy. 

The Museum of Freemasonry with one of the finest collections of masonic artefacts and archives in the world, is housed within the building. 

UGLE is the governing body of Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Man consisting of 48 Provinces roughly based on the old county boundaries and 32 Districts overseas. English Freemasonry is a membership organisation of 175,000 people meeting in more than 7,000 Lodges across the globe. Membership is open to any man over the age of 18 irrespective of their background, race or religion, with students also able to join one of 87 University Scheme Lodges. The largest Province in UGLE is Metropolitan in London with many Lodges meeting at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden which also serves as the Headquarters for English Freemasonry worldwide.

Main duties 

1. Social Media & Digital Engagement

  • Develop and deliver a creative and impactful social media strategy across platforms (YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Podcasts).
  • Creating and editing video content to support social media, internal platforms, and events.
  • Create engaging content—both written and visual—tailored to each channel.
  • Monitor social media activity and respond to member and public enquiries with professionalism and timeliness.
  • Report on social media performance and campaign impact, offering data-driven insights to shape future strategies.
  • Be an internal advocate for the power of social media, engaging key stakeholders and promoting best practices across the organisation.
  • Stay ahead of online trends and implement innovative ideas into campaigns and strategies.

2. Copywriting & Content Creation

  • Lead on copywriting for the Communications Department, producing engaging and on-brand content across multiple platforms.
  • Write and publish articles and blog posts to drive member engagement and website traffic.
  • Conduct interviews and contribute to the production of internal publications, including the digital magazine (FMT Live) and other platforms.
  • Produce and distribute regular newsletters (e.g. bUGLE, FMT newsletter and shop) via platforms such as Mailchimp.

3. Website & Platform Support

  • Regularly update and maintain the UGLE website, Brand Centre and other platforms with fresh content
  • Optimise content for SEO and user experience
  • Create monthly reports in Google Analytics to monitor website performance and user engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to generate relevant content
  • Support the management of website enquiries by filtering and directing them to the relevant departments in a timely and efficient manner.

4. Member Experience & Support

  • Support the Communications Manager in the development and implementation of strategies.
  • Track member activity and gather data to report on engagement and satisfaction.
  • Act as one of the main points of contact for Provincial Communications Officers (PCOs) and support the development of District Communication Officer networks.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices across Provinces and assist in organising the annual PCO Forum.
  • Represent UGLE at events and during visits to Provinces, acting as a communications ambassador.

5. Solomon Platform Support

  • Collaborate with the Web Content Manager to maintain and enhance the Solomon learning platform.
  • Convert existing materials into accessible formats and support production and editing of Solomon Live webinars.
  • Work with volunteers and subject leads to fact-check, research and publish high-quality learning content.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Learning & Development Group and serve as a point of contact for ongoing support.

Skills and experience required

  • You will be someone with excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to work with colleagues co-operatively and collaboratively in the team and across the organisation. You will have the ability to work closely with the existing team and key partners to deliver a strategy that engages both UGLE’s members and members of the public by showcasing the benefits of Freemasonry
  • Proven experience as a videographer with a strong portfolio showcasing your skills including a range of styles, tone of voice and execution in multiple channels.
  • You will have experience with copywriting for web, website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) plus implementing click funnels and optimising journeys. Experience with SEO tools and email platforms is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Premiere Pro) or equivalent design and video editing tools.
  • You will have the ability to work closely with the existing team and key partners to deliver a creative digital marketing strategy that engages UGLE’s members and members of the public by showcasing the benefits of Freemasonry across all media channels.
  • You will have a flexible approach both to the type of work undertaken and working hours as required to meet team objectives and ultimately customer needs, taking ownership and responsibility for work and performance. You will demonstrate a positive ‘can do’ attitude, proactive mind set and excellent work ethic. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate resilience and present yourself in a professional manner at all times.

Hours of work

Full time 35 hours per week

*During first 3 months and probation period, required to work full time in the office. Hybrid working offered thereafter.
