The District Grand Lodge of Cyprus has the pleasure of inviting golfers (members and non-members) to participate in the annual Peter Lowndes Open Challenge Cup to be held in Cyprus on Sunday 12th May 2024 at the Aphrodite Hills Golf Club.
The Annual Peter Lowndes Open Challenge Cup Golf Tournament serves a commendable dual purpose: it celebrates the spirit of golf while making a significant impact on the community. This prestigious event, organised by the District Grand Lodge of Cyprus, brings together Freemasons worldwide, guests, and golf enthusiasts. Beyond the greens and fairways, the tournament is driven by a noble cause, and its true significance lies in its charitable mission. Through generous donations, sponsorships, and participant fees, it raises funds for a charitable purpose. It exemplifies how a shared passion for golf can drive positive change, making each swing on the course resonate far beyond the 18th hole.
The net proceeds of this year’s charitable event will be donated to the Karaiskakio Foundation, which is a remarkable nonprofit organisation that has made significant contributions in both the humanitarian and scientific fields. Established with a noble purpose, it has evolved into an internationally recognised Bone Marrow Donors Registry, representing the largest per capita donor registry worldwide. Inspired by the battle of young Andreas Karaiskakis, who unfortunately lost his life due to leukaemia, the foundation aims to save lives by facilitating bone marrow transplants. It actively contributes to scientific research and advancements in the field of haematology and, through constant and reliable scientific support of patients with haematological malignancies and other related diseases, creates a relationship of shared trust and cooperation based on mutual respect and altruism.
Last year’s event was attended by 32 golfers from the club membership as well as from various lodges in Cyprus and abroad, including the Past Pro Grand Master, Peter Geoffrey Lowndes, who flew in from London to join the festivities. After the game, the participants, accompanied by Freemasons, families, and guests, enjoyed a delicious awards buffet lunch at the clubhouse, where the winners received their trophies and prizes.
The Past Pro Grand Master congratulated the organisers, the players, and the sponsors for their generosity and sportsmanship. He expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality he always receives when visiting Cyprus. He also praised the charitable work of the District Grand Lodge of Cyprus and encouraged everyone to continue supporting this worthy cause.
