On Friday, November 29th, the Sheerness Masonic Centre hosted its Summer Spectacular Awards Evening, a memorable occasion marked by gratitude, celebration, and a collective dedication to community engagement. The event brought together Sheerness Freemasons and local supporters to reflect on a year of remarkable achievements and the positive impact made within the community.
Notable guests at the event included Neil Hamilton Johnstone, the Provincial Grand Master; Peter Rhodes, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master; Colin Barden, the Craft Provincial Grand Charity Steward; and Michael Smith (Miki Travis), the Royal Arch Provincial Grand Charity Steward. Their attendance underscored the importance of the evening and the broader mission of local Freemasonry in supporting local charitable causes. The gathering paid tribute to the record-breaking Freemasons Summer Spectacular event in August, which saw over 10,000 attendees, marking it as East Kent’s largest public Masonic event to date. This success was the result of the dedication and hard work of a small but passionate group of Sheerness Freemasons who turned their vision into reality.
The financial impact of the Sheerness Summer Spectacular event was significant, with funds raised benefiting a wide range of local causes. On the day of the event, charities and local groups raised £8,308.00. In addition, the Sheerness Freemasons contributed an impressive £17,400.00, bringing the total funds raised and donated to £25,708.00. These funds were distributed to 51 local Sheerness charities, each making a meaningful difference in areas such as food security, youth programs, and various community outreach efforts. The evening’s celebration acknowledged these contributions and the vital role that each charity plays in improving lives and fostering a sense of unity within the community.
In his speech, the Provincial Grand Master highlighted the importance of charity and community engagement, saying,
“The commitment shown here tonight to uplift those in need reflects our core values.”
The evening also featured inspiring stories of perseverance, showcasing how many charities adapted and thrived despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through innovative fundraising and collaboration, these organizations proved the power of working together for the common good.
The Awards Evening wasn’t just an occasion to honour charitable work; it was a reminder of the strength found in collective effort and shared goals. The evening celebrated the power of the community and the difference it can make when people come together with a common purpose.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the event. Their support ensured that we can continue to make a positive impact and drive meaningful change within our local community. Through collaboration and shared dedication, we will create a stronger, more united society.
