Northumberland Companions Organise Multiple-Candidate Night

Posted:
A special night for Northumberland Freemasonry as the Carville Chapter Exalted eight candidates together

The Second Grand Principal, Sir David Wootton, visited the Province of Northumberland last month to witness the Exaltation of eight candidates into the Carville Royal Arch Chapter.

This event came after The Gavel Lodge in Northumberland made history last year by Initiating nine candidates in a single ceremony. Several of the Brethren who were candidates in that ceremony were Exaltees at this meeting of the Carville Chapter - completing their journey in freemasonry together, adding further significance to an already special evening.

The Co-Principals of The Carville Chapter, David Stockdale, Gary Breach and Collin Bowman- who were also behind The Gavel Lodge meeting, expressed their hope that the success of multi-candidate ceremonies like these will encourage others to follow suit.

Commenting on the occasion, the Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland Ian Craigs said:

'There are many advantages to multi-candidate ceremonies, but the most significant is the camaraderie and friendship amongst the candidates. Their shared experience creates a bond, forging friendships that will last a lifetime.'

Steven Varley, Assistant Grand Master, said:

"The recent Exaltation ceremony at The Carville Chapter was a perfect example of how multiple candidate ceremonies can provide a meaningful and enriching experience for the candidates. As the Pro Grand Master Jonathan Spence rightly noted at the Quarterly Communication meeting in Wales last year, the belief that such ceremonies detract from the individual's journey is unfounded. Having previously witnessed several of these candidates come into the Craft together, it was inspiring to see them continue the journey by becoming a Royal Arch Freemason with the same sense of unity and shared purpose."
