When anyone becomes the master of his masonic lodge, he is allowed to choose a charity to support for his year in office, Andrew McConaghy and his wife Alison chose St Lukes Hospice, his tenure extended to three years in office due to Covid suspending a lot of meetings.
The members of the Lodge kindly supported Andrew by agreeing to a £1500.00 donation from the Charity Fund with the addition of another £400 from the Social Fund (raised by our various social evenings).
Andrew, Alyson and members of the Lodge, Phil Collins (Social Fund coordinator), Bryan Elms (Secretary), and Paul Stevenson (Charity Steward) all attended and were treated to Tea and Biscuits in the Garden room.
They then presented the cheques to Sarah at St Lukes on behalf of Sir Walter Raleigh lodge in the Gardens, on what was a beautiful sunny morning.
With the current health restrictions, it was not possible to go into the Hospice but it was explained to them that the money presented would be a major help, supporting up to three patients and their families.
Letter of thanks from Sarah Wallis
A Letter of thanks was recently received from Sarah Wallis which can be seen below, is said:
'Hi Andrew & Alyson,
I just want to say a massive thank you for choosing St. Luke’s Hospice as your charity this year, it really means so much to us and I really appreciate the members of your lodge taking the time to come over to Turnchapel to meet with me. Your generous donations of £1500 and £400 will make a huge difference to our patients and their families and helps to support them through some truly difficult moments in their lives.
Our work is based locally in Plymouth and the surrounding areas, so your contribution will be supporting people local to your Lodge and in your own communities with compassionate end of life care, and there are so many families in Plymouth that have been touched by our work and the commitment of our amazing staff.
My heart-felt thanks for your support of St Luke’s, I very much look forward to seeing some pictures of our presentation and sharing them in the local community.
Best wishes,
Sarah Wallis
